We’re recovering perfectionists, overachievers/do-gooders, pot smokers, mothers, Sisters…here’s our bold manifesto:
Alanna Miel and Darcy Rose’s Manifesto
- a public declaration of policy and aims, especially one issued before an election by a political party or candidate.
On the eve of launching Yippie Chicks, I reflect as I often do on the meaning of life and daydream about the life I’m on the verge of manifesting. It should be the furthest thing from my mind, with all the business admin and debt that I have piled up, the house in a current state of chaos, and the cough that I’m fighting. But I can’t get over the idea that Miel and I are meant to rule this world, in the most benevolent way. Miel and I will be elected President of the United States in 2032, while I serve as Vice President. Believe me, this recurring daydream surprises me most of all, but I can’t seem to shake it.
At times the feeling is so powerful that it overwhelms me, flooding my senses, and swelling in my chest like a buoy. It makes me want to push back my shoulders, and balance my crown. At times it’s made me panic, and I know that deep down being famous is my deepest fear (that, and being rejected or letting someone down, especially by Kevin and Miel). Yet, as I listen to Marley’s No Woman No Cry, I can’t help but feel confident that everything will be all right and this is simply meant to be.
So, that means the next courageous action that I need to take is draft our platform, which lists all of our initial policy aims. Here it goes:
- Solve the global climate crisis with global creativity, partnerships, and joy, while gently, but consistently, dismantling the systems that perpetuate the problem.
- Create a world with no boundaries…imagine if we could.
- Redesign the military, and give our schools all the savings. Ensuring at the same time that we are safer than we ever have been before.
- Invest in a global education system that connects diverse cultures and teaches the breadth of human understanding, not just what drove the industrial economic engine.
- Create an new-American mainstream culture, where citizens are encouraged to find their higher calling, heal themselves, and live their bliss.
- Restore the government to ensure safety, fairness, and well-being for all its people. Oh, and tear down the unnecessary bureaucracy.
- We will meet problems with equanimity, openness and presence, and work together to solve them. We will hire a kick ass team to help us…we’re hiring now. 😉
Instead of hiring a political team to polish us and poll people, our plan is to just keep living our simple and beautiful lives. The only new thing is that we will be sharing our journeys with you. We’ll blog and blab to our heart’s content, sharing our most intimate and spiritual truths, our deepest desires and our greatest joys. You’ll hear it in raw form, right here.
We’ll do our best to live our lives by example, and not care what the critics say. And we know that we will falter along the way, so we ask for your forgiveness in advance. One of the best things about being twins is that we can’t seem to hold a grudge, we truly appreciate your grace and acceptance.
I honestly don’t know how you and the world will react to our manifesto, and our audacious goal to make the world a better place. It is my hope that you will feel an elated sense of peace and you too realize that everything is going to be all right, and that this modern era of struggle and strife has an end in sight.
It’s hard to imagine what the world will look like in 2032, but it makes me smile to think about planning our inauguration party. Whatever our future looks like, I know the world will need our leadership, spiritual guidance, and positive energy. We will have trained for the role in the most authentic and unique ways ever known to the the Executive branch. Everything from growing up off the grid to globe trotting adventures and organic gardening (our own weed). I’m smiling now as I reflect on thinking of how the world might look.
I’m sure we’ll find lots of other problems to fix and causes to support, but we’ve got some time. While I feel in suddenly and completely in alignment with this whole bold manifesto, I also feel as though I don’t want to rush into anything. I’m frankly still working to get my own house in order (and can’t wait to share the magic of the konmari method, among so many other life-changing practices). For the near term, we don’t plan on solving all the world’s problems. Instead will work proactively on the solutions we already actively working to implement.
Miel will work to solve the world’s wood-burning problem while turning InStove into a multi-million dollar benefit corporation, and I will work to transform McClure Park into a magical place for kids of all ages. I’ll put Astoria on the world map. We’ll both volunteer through Rotary International, to connect with fellow Rotarians to solve community-based needs around the world.
We’ll also build a fellowship of fellow Yippie Chicks, who believe that they too have a role in changing this world for the better, starting with themselves. We’ll share about our unique lives as identical twins. How we manage multiple businesses together, and the challenges and rewards of that. We hope to inspire and aim provide helpful tidbits from our adventures along the way. We will share about stuff that we love in our lives and think you will too. We’ll share about this crazy balance of life, with all the juicy details of money, manifesting our lives, raising our children, and maybe even a bit of sex thrown in there. 🙂 Together we can start a revolution.
On top of all that, we will lead from a place of personal integrity and confidence that the world is ready to step up to any challenges we face. Instead of analyzing policy from a top down approach, we will transform the world by transforming ourselves.

Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” ~ Rumi
